The busy street started out in a small residential area, but tapered into the market districts before long. All up the street was a trail of holes in clotheslines, and at the end of that a violet eyed woman doing up a corset with increasing skill. Her shortish dark hair was damp; it was almost the same deep brown as the corset. The blouse underneath was black and her pants matched the blouse.
What could she say? Clotheslines were always ripe for the picking. Her own stolen clothing helped camouflage her with the locals, although she noticed with increasing worry, that her hair should be long. Well... you couldn't help some things.
She finger-combed her hair over her face to hide her eyes, and walked unafraid through the market street.

Denzel shuffled quickley into the back alley, breathing deeply. He looked back out into the main way, and, seeing no danger, slumped down against the wall, trying to look inconspicuous."Bloody....guards.....and....paladins....." he muttered to himself between breathes. He curled up against the wall as the clanking of armour and footsteps grew louder. A small group of shouts echoed, and a couple knights ran past the alley way, pointing directions at each other. He waited untill the danger had past and the noise died down, till he uncurled, and let out a sigh of relief.

A whiff of Vampire on the wind alerted her of the guards charging stupidly down the street. People moved out of their way as the tore past Rae, yelling. They had already lost their quarry to the darkness of alley, but they ran on- perhaps unaware.
The drag of several bodies rushing past her stirred the air enough to send her hair scattering in different directions. Carefully, she placed it back down again.
The vampire was in the alley... She debated going after it. Killing them could be noisy. Usually you had to set fire to the corpses if one wanted them to stay dead, and they left behind a foul-smelling, oily smoke.
More guards decided for her; these ones quietly walked down the street stopping people and asking questions. Anyone who stood out from the crowd was soon cornered by at least two uniforms and pestered. With her unusually short hair, and no chance of being mistaken for a man, she stood out, even with her stolen clothes.
She ducked silently into the nearest alley, and stepped around the backstreets until she came upon the corner connecting the Vampire and herself.

Denzel, was clinging to the side of the building, about 10 feet up, for dear life, hiding in the shadows. He watched different guards fly past the alley, the scurrying of people in the mainway, and guards slowing to ask suspicious looking characters questions. That was when she caught his eye, from earlier. She may have hidden her look behind some stolen clothing, but her aura, and blood smell was distinct. He watched as she also doubled back into the alley, probably after him. He had no quarrel with a demon, so he didn't want to cause too much of a racket in that part of town.
He waited until she was directly underneat his shadow in the alley, when he dropped behind her, grabbing an arm behind her back, and placing another over her mouth.
"Coming after me might have seemed like a good idea at the time" Denzel said in as calm a tone as he could muster,"but it probably wasn't. I don't want to fight you or cause a fuss, seeing as how we both are probably not welcome here." Upon his final word, he slowly relased his grasp on the womans mouth and arm.
"Now, as much as a hypocrite as I might sound, what buisness does a demon have in this kind of city?"

Before he had fully let go of her she shook him off and swung around. Her muscles tensed and quivered while her eyes masked savagery. After a moment her hair flattened back and the violence quieted.
"I don't suggest you touch me." she whispered.
After another moment of quivering silence she forced out more words.
"Probably better business than a vampire. This isn't a place where I need sentient blood to survive."
Still on edge, she took another step back from Denzel and started to circle back around to the darker side of the alley.
"The Library." she said "As scummy as most of this city is, it has a good library."
She struggled for a minute before letting loose more of the savage violence from before; she barred her teeth at him.
"What might your business here be?"

Denzel's eyes glistened in the dark alley.
"Feeding is not my intention here, demon. I fed short enough ago that I should be satisfied till the next dawn. Besides, feeding in a human city will only cause me unneeded attention."
He gave a smirk, at both his own line, and the violent spunk of the demon. He could tell she was the kind that would stab you in the back at first benifit.
"Well, there is some irony in our situation here. My goal is the city's Library as well, but probably not for the same reason. My goal lies underneath the Library, in the catacombs beneath."
He circled around her, in an opposite direction, resting in the shadows of the alley.

She snickered at the mention of the catacombs. The twisting maze of dead ends and crypts defied enough maps to make it dangerous to anything that entered it. Anything that saturated in magic changed as it pleased...even she had trouble with it.
"Well good luck in the catacombs." she smirked,"Suck a corpse if you get hungry...'course there's no telling how dead they'll be. Mind the traps, the Spells, the ghosts and of course the demons. There'll be lots of those, bent into servitude by the 'good' humans."
She paused for a moment, still smirking.
"And the guards. They put guards in sometime in the last few years."
She gave the Vampire one last smile and turned to pass him in the shadowed alley.

"You think I haven't thought all this through?", asked Denzel with a smirk,"As you'd put it, t'would indeed be suicide to waltz in unprepared"
He reached into his bag and revealed an intricate scroll capsule.
"This ,young demon, is something of the greatest family heirloom a vampire's parents could offer him, when extracting retribution" His smirk turned into a near evil grin.
"A map, hand drawn by one of the designers of the catacombs beneath the city. Once im in, through the only publicly know entrance in the Library, I can go anywhere throughout the whole area. Every turn, every trap, every dead end, revealed before my very eyes"
He chuckled to himself as he replaced it back beneath his jacket."All I need is get in, and I can get to the human Paladin headquaters"
As she began to walk past him, he called over his shoulder,"You know, you won't pass as any man here, and a young boy looking like that might be suspicious. Someone is bound to notice some...girlish figures and become suspicious"

She let both insults pass. Vampires... well they weren't exactly known to be geniuses.
"Come Here." she said. The language was strange and deep, like well water. It funneled upwards into unknown words with meanings that were impossible to mistake, and impossible to repeat.
Even so, nothing happened. The Demon frowned, then said another well-word.
"Appear." She said and held out her hand.
Without fireworks, or any hint of the surreal, the Vampire's scroll appeared in her hand. She opened it and scanned the paper.
"Not bad." She said."it looks like the eastern wing is fairly accurate... but outdated. The main stretch is pretty simple, so I'm not surprised they got it mostly right. Just hope you don't have to go to the Deep Combs... nobody ever mapped that."
She placed the scroll on a crate by her side and lizarded quickly up a wall.
"See you, I guess."
And in broad daylight, she vanished onto the rooftops.

Denzel snatched his scroll, and replaced it in his robe, as he wandered back down the alley. Demons were always a hassel to deal with, but this one....was a little different that other's he'd encountered. Normally they would've made off with their stolen goods, and left him to his torment, or attempt at sucide, but this one.....showed respect for wishes....a rare, but not unnatural trait amongst demons.
He gave a smirk as he dashed into the darker shadows deeper into the alleyway. He'd wait till nightfall before making a move. Better to plan out all his moves before taking action, and his plans definetly went better under cover of moon.
Not to mention he an itching feeling in the back of his mind that wasn't the last he'd heard of that demon.
