The river boils as it flows. Steam floats lazily over the tarry water, veiling the city beyond the river in wet mist. It sits like a stone under a smoke-grey sky. Breath doesn’t come easily within the city’s walls, but in gasping heaves. The smells of market, cattle and burnt flesh ride on the humidity. There’s little metal inside, and less wood. A dull red metal seems to poke out from wagons wheels that steams with the water in the air and scorches flesh black. The Streets are unevenly cobbled with slate that climbs knee-length up the walls of the dirty houses. From the outskirts, the city center is lost in muggy smog. A tower tries in vain to peek from the mists, but gets no relief from the heavy air.
